Neural field description of state-dependent visual receptive field changes

چکیده
Receptive elds (RFs) in V1 were found to be wider during synchronized than during non-synchronized EEG states, where, in addition, they can sharpen over time. These changes were suggested to be mainly driven by state-dependent LGN-ring patterns. Here we employ a neural eld approach to analytically describe the changing cortical RFs. For pure feedforward networks expressions for spatio-temporal RF are given, as well as expected time-courses of RF-sizes. It turns out that, although the RF-size depends on time, the width of the underlying spatial potential proole is constant. The analytically derived point-spread functions are tted to experimental data. Fit results provide estimates for model parameters consistent with literature data and support the hypothesis that the observed RF-sharpening is mainly LGN-driven.

Receptive Field Encoding Model for Dynamic Natural Vision
Introduction: Encoding models are used to predict human brain activity in response to sensory stimuli. The purpose of these models is to explain how sensory information represent in the brain. Convolutional neural networks trained by images are capable of encoding magnetic resonance imaging data of humans viewing natural images. Considering the hemodynamic response function, these networks are ...
متن کاملNeural field description of state-dependent receptive field changes in the visual cortex
Receptive elds in V1 have been shown to be wider during synchronized than during non-synchronized EEG states, where, in addition, they can shrink over time in response to ashed stimuli. In the present paper we employ a neural eld approach to describe the activity patterns in V1 analytically. Expressions for spatio-temporal receptive elds are derived and tted to experimental data. The model supp...
متن کاملNeural Field Model of Receptive Field Restructuring in Primary Visual Cortex
Receptive fields (RF) in the visual cortex can change their size depending on the state of the individual. This reflects a changing visual resolution according to different demands on information processing during drowsiness. So far, however, the possible mechanisms that underlie these size changes have not been tested rigorously. Only qualitatively has it been suggested that state-dependent la...
متن کاملReceptive-Field Modification in Rat Visual Cortex Induced by Paired Visual Stimulation and Single-Cell Spiking
Experience-dependent plasticity of visual cortical receptive fields (RFs) involves synaptic modifications in the underlying neural circuits, but the site and mechanism of these modifications remain to be elucidated. Using in vivo whole-cell recordings, we show that pairing visual stimulation at a given retinal location with spiking of a single neuron in developing rat visual cortex induces rapi...
متن کاملVisual receptive field modulation in the lateral intraparietal area during attentive fixation and free gaze.
The receptive field (RF) of neurons recorded from the lateral intraparietal area (LIP) was quantified using a rapid, computer-driven mapping procedure. For each neuron, the RF was mapped: (1) during attentive fixation and (2) during free visual exploration. RF location, size and internal structure were modulated by the mapping context in over two-thirds of the recorded neurons. The major trend ...
